Mini Mathematicians' Workshop
(Entering Grades K - 1)
Let the wonderful world of children's literature introduce your child to the excitement of mathematics and writing. This section focuses on young children getting ready for kindergarten and first grade. Begining math concepts are developed through a variety of hands-on, fun-filled activities.
Young Math/Science Workshops
(Classes for entering grades 2 through 8)
The Young Mathematicians'/Young Scientists' Workshops offer students the opporunity to further develop higher level thinking skills by doing hands-on activities that integrate math and science. To promote critical thinking, students are encouraged to use a variety of problem solving strategies. These include:
  • making charts/diagrams
  • looking for patterns
  • problem solving activities
  • estimating
  • drawing pictures
  • using logical reasoning
In previous years, students have learned through various projects such as constructing rockets to study gravity and force, building and racing model cars to study friction and speed, reconstructing a miniature volcano, and participating in an Olympics using the metric system. Guest speakers have included a rocket scientist and a water quality expert.
