Jody Guarino is a Lecturer in the Department of Education at the University of California, Irvine. She received a B.A. in Communications and Sociology from the University of Southern California; Professional Clear Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and Cross Cultural Language and Academic Development (CLAD) from California State University, Los Angeles; and M.S. in Education from California State University, Fullerton. She has spent fifteen years teaching at the elementary level and nine years working with the Orange County Department of Education and United States Department of Education doing professional development.

A National Board Certified Early Childhood Generalist, Ms. Guarino has been a district mentor, master teacher, Beginning Teacher Support and Assessment (BTSA) support provider, and contributing author to district curriculum in the areas of Word Study, Language Arts, and Math. She participated in a roundtable discussion with former Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings and was one of four teachers to attend the White House Summit on the Advancement of Girls in Math and Science.

A member of the United States Department of Education Teacher Training Corps, Ms. Guarino has developed and presented workshops and seminars on effective teaching strategies, differentiation, professional learning communities, and parent education in 22 states. Her presentation "Standards Based Differentiated Math" is featured on the Panhandle Area Educational Consortium website, a site offering Staff Development opportunities to teachers across the country. 

Since joining UC Irvine's Department of Education in 2005, Ms. Guarino has taught a variety of courses, supervised multiple subject student teachers, and been a University Associate. Ms. Guarino developed a paired-collaborative student teacher model, now in the third year of implementation, placing two student teachers with one university associate.

Currently pursuing a doctorate degree, Ms. Guarino is interested in teacher quality and the development of pre-service and in-service teachers. She is presently investigating how student teacher placement in a paired collaborative model effects pre-service teacher's development of an awareness of the teaching and learning process.
