Mapping the Arts

Mapping the Arts is a professional development program for pre-service teaching artists who are training to work in Los Angeles-area schools. Program participants will be trained to implement a curriculum that teaches elementary school students about ties between the geographical and cultural environments of different U.S. regions and the dance, drama, and visual art forms these environments foster. This project expands the Mapping the Beat geography through music curriculum to include additional art forms.
Project outcomes will be evaluated through multiple means, including classroom visits by mentors and researchers, focus groups held with classroom teachers and with teaching artists, pre- and post-tests to assess the learning of the elementary school students, and surveys completed by all adult participants.
