Biography
Shari Kaulig joined the Department of Education as Foreign Language Instructional Methods instructor in 2004. She has 33 years of experience as a foreign language instructor. Ms. Kaulig earned a BA in the Teaching of Spanish from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, and a MS in Educational Administration from Illinois State University. She has taught Spanish and French at the junior and senior high school levels. Since 1988, she has been a Spanish teacher at Los Alamitos High School, where she is currently department chair of the World Language Department.
Ms. Kaulig is a BTSA support provider and BTSA trainer. She was also the WASC coordinator for Los Alamitos High School. From 1998 - 2003 she served on the Development Team and as Chief Reader for the Golden State Exam in Spanish for the California Department of Education. Ms. Kaulig was named Foreign Language Teacher of the Year by the Foreign Language Association of Orange County (FLAOC) in 2001 and Outstanding Language Teacher by the California Language Teachers’ Association (CLTA) in 2002.
As a co-team leader of Project COACH, UCI Foreign Language Project, Ms. Kaulig presents at staff development workshops for Southern California teachers. She is also a regular presenter at CLTA conferences and has presented as a consultant for the Stockton, Placentia-Yorba Linda, and Tustin school districts. Ms. Kaulig is a contributor to and co-editor of the Project COACH publications All About Me, Lenguaje para la vida I, and Lenguaje para la vida II. These are lab manuals of foreign language classroom activities that are widely used throughout California classrooms and in many areas of the U.S.
