Biography

Lauren Shea is a third year Ph.D. student in the Department of Education at the University of California, Irvine, specializing in Language, Literacy, and Technology.

Lauren’s BS is in Bilingual Education, Elementary Education, and E.S.L. from Boston University; and her MA is from the University of Massachusetts, Boston in Applied Linguistics. For eight years, Lauren worked in a Two-way (Dual Immersion) program in a suburb outside of Boston, teaching English-speaking and Spanish-speaking children to read, write, and speak in both languages. In her last year there, she created a position for the district and served in it as Curriculum Coordinator where she trained teachers in second language methodology, created curriculum, modeled lessons, implemented technology in language learning, and headed the Massachusetts’ second annual Dual-Language Conference.

Her research interests include professional development (PD) in the integration of language and content, language acquisition strategies, and how technology can increase teacher and student outcomes in PD programs.
