Biography

Jennifer Long joins UC Irvine's doctoral program in education with a specialization in Learning, Cognition, and Development.

Prior to entering the Ph. D. program, Jennifer worked as a program director and instructional designer at the Ocean Institute, an informal science center in Dana Point. As the Program Director of Instructional Services in the Ocean Institute’s Center for Cooperation in Research and Education (CORE), she managed design teams that developed programs to address challenging educational issues. The mission of CORE was to build effective, efficient bridges between the research and education communities, providing the research community with opportunities for outreach and the education community with programs enriched by exciting, cutting edge science research. Through multiple projects, CORE emerged as a leader in developing innovative solutions to improve science education by building partnerships between university research, both in science and in education, and formal and informal education. CORE developed and tested a number of programs that explored the use of technology to integrate real-world data into educational settings.

Jennifer’s research interest includes the effectiveness of technology in connecting science research with both formal and informal education to prepare students for the 21st century.

Jennifer received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from UCLA, a teaching credential from UC Irvine, and a Master of Science degree in Educational Technology from National University. She volunteers for Radio Lollipop at CHOC (Children’s Hospital of Orange County), the Crystal Cove Alliance, and The Ecology Center.
