Biography

Kristin C. Collins earned her M.A. in Educational Administration from San Francisco State University after many years of urban school experience as a teacher, literacy specialist, curriculum consultant and school reform coach. After earning her B.A. in English and General Literature from the State University of New York at Binghamton, Ms. Collins became a charter member of Teach For America, the national teacher corps which places college graduates in urban and rural districts experiencing teacher shortages, and began teaching at Centennial High School in Compton. She has trained pre and in-service teachers in secondary literacy, curriculum design and student-centered instruction as a consultant for numerous organizations, including the San Francisco Education Fund, Teach For America, Ventures Education Systems, and the Coalition of Essential Schools.

Since joining the Department in 2002, Ms. Collins has taught courses in the Education Minor and Single Subject Credential programs, and supervised student teachers of English and social studies. A resident of downtown Santa Ana, Ms. Collins contributes to neighborhood educational reform initiatives by serving on the Orange County Educational Arts Academy Board of Directors.
