Research
Learning Game Project
Dr. Burge is collaborating on an interdisciplinary project in educational game design with UC Irvine faculty in the Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences, the Claire Trevor School of the Arts, and the Game Design Lab. Current projects include a game infrastructure for teachers and the production of learning games based on research in cognition, learning theory, gender effects, and instructional design. The goal of this project is to improve access to learning for all students through technology.
ArtsCore 2001-2005
Dr. Burge was Co-Director and coauthor of this professional development project which was funded by the California Postsecondary Education Commission. More than 100 secondary visual and performing arts teachers participated in summer institutes and workshops exploring the integration of reading and writing strategies in the arts curriculum. The goal of the project was to improve the academic achievement of students, traditionally underrepresented in postsecondary education, through the arts.
