Biography

Debby A. Ford Project Manager University of California, Irvine Debby A. Ford is currently Project Manager for the Studies to Treat or Prevent Pediatric Type 2 Diabetes, The HEALTHY Study, where she is responsible for coordinating all aspects of the study for the University of California, Irvine. UCI is one of seven sites across the nation funded by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Disorders (NIDDK) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Prior to assuming this current position, Ms. Ford was a Health Educator and Physical Educator for the Saddleback Valley Unified School District for twenty-nine years. During her tenure with SVUSD she was a master teacher to thirteen student teachers from five university programs. She teaches the Education 352 course here at UCI and has taught similar courses at university campuses in Pomona, Long Beach, Dominguez Hills, San Marcos, and Fullerton. Ms. Ford was also the study consultant for the NIH funded Project Fitness and Bone (FAB) at the University of California, Irvine and Health Education consultant to and presented workshops and conference sessions for the Capistrano Unified School District, the Orange County Department of Education, and the Kansas State Department of Education.

Ms. Ford has also served as a member of the Executive Committee of the California School Health Leadership Institute, Governor Gray Davis’ Teaching Fellowship Review Committee, the American Cancer Society’s National Society School Health Leadership Institute and was the Health Education lead educator and trainer for the South Physical Education – Health Subject Matter Project (South-PEHP) for the University of California, San Diego. Ms. Ford has recently served as an expert panelist at the Centers for Disease Control in the area of Coordinated School Health Programs. She serves on the Executive Board of the California Association of School Health Educators and has served as treasurer for the past thirteen years. Ms. Ford has also been a writer of assessment tools for the National Council of Chief State School Officers – State Collaboration of Assessment and Student Standards (CCSSO – SCASS) as part of the Health Education Exercise Development Team. She also was a member of the University of California, Irvine Transdisciplinary Tobacco Use Research Center.

Additionally, Ms. Ford is an active member of the American School Health Association; American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance; California Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance; California Association of School Health Educators; American Cancer Society and American Red Cross. She serves on the SVUSD Healthy Kids Healthy California Advisory Committee.

Ms. Ford received her Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education and Master of Science degree in Physical Education and Health Promotion with a specialty in Curriculum Design from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. She holds a Tier I California Administrative Credential from California State University, Fullerton. Ms. Ford was awarded the California State University Outstanding Alumni K-12 Teacher Award and was Health Educator of the Year in the State of California three times.
