Edelina Burciaga is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Education specializing in Education Policy and Social Context. Prior to entering the Ph.D. program, Edelina worked as an attorney with the Massachusetts Law Reform Institute (MLRI), a non-profit legal services organization committed to social and economic justice.
Edelina’s research interests include the educational trajectory of Latino students, community organizing for education reform, community lawyering, institutional and structural racism, and education and the law. Edelina’s research interests are grounded in her lifelong commitment to social and racial justice and her past experiences working with communities of color in California, Texas and Massachusetts.
Edelina received her undergraduate degree with honors from Stanford University where she majored in Chicana/o Studies and English. Edelina also holds a Master’s Degree in Education from the Stanford University School of Education. Edelina graduated from the Boston University School of Law in 2005 where she was the recipient of the Warren S. Gilford Law and Humanity Prize.
After spending six years on the east coast, Edelina is happy to be home in California close to her family and friends. Edelina enjoys running, swimming, vegetarian cooking and hopes to take full advantage of everything Southern California has to offer.
