Abstract
This talk focused on pre-service teachers' learning from practice. We discussed pre-service teachers' beginning noticing skills and then reported the impact of an intervention designed to help them learn to observe, analyze, and improve teaching. We first presented data analysis related to pre-service teachers' observation and analysis of teaching prior to a course designed to help them develop these skills. We then discussed the Learning to Learn from Teaching course and reported findings related to the pre-service teachers' perceptions of the impact of this course on their analysis, as well as data on pre-post differences in their analyses of teaching via a video-based task. This work has implications for research on the development of pre-service teacher noticing, as well as on the role of reflection in teacher education and on the design of teacher education programs to support systematic analysis of teaching.
