Mark Warschauer will be the keynote speaker at JALTCALL 2009 (Japanese Association of Language Teachers, Computer Assisted Language Learning annual conference) on June 6, 2009 in Tokyo, Japan.
Presentation Summation
Language students must learn to read and write both “the word” (to use texts in linguistically accurate fashion) and “the world” (to use texts as a means to connect to others and impact society). Based on literacy theory and recent research, this presentation reviews how the affordances of four new digital tools—blogs, wikis, artificial intelligence, and text scaffolding—can help second language learners achieve these ends.
