Chair Deborah Lowe Vandell presented at the Supporting Student Success (S3) Conference held in Chicago on July 13. The conference theme was The Promise of Expanded Learning Opportunities. Funded by the C.S. Mott Foundation, the conference was attended by the Conference of State Legislatures and the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices. Dr. Vandell’s presentation was entitled "Making the Case: Research on Extended Learning Opportunities and Implications for State Policy - Outcomes Linked to High-Quality Afterschool Programs."

Research indicates that high-quality expanded learning opportunities (ELOs) can positively impact student development and academic success. Deborah Lowe Vandell shared the latest findings from The Study of Promising After-School Programs, including the features of high-quality programs, the impact on student outcomes, and the implications for systems of professional development as well as for state ELO policy and practice.
