Future Teachers from Century High School TEACH Academy Spend Day at UC Irvine

Thirty-eight high school juniors from Century High School in Santa Ana spent a day at UC Irvine learning about academic life on a UC campus. During their visit they participated in a scavenger hunt that included buying items from the UCI Bookstore, exploring Aldrich park, and sketching a picture of a student activity that they observed.

At Misty Mountain, the "Changing the Future through Education" dormitory in Middle Earth, academy members heard from UCI student panelists who had attended high school in Santa Ana, California:

  • Nydia Quijas, TEACH Academy Alumna
  • Sandra Mora, Century High School Alumna
  • Carlos Antonio Martinez, Valley High School Alumnus
  • Kristian Cloyd, Misty Mountain

The panelists talked about how their TEACH Academy experiences helped them transition from high school into a four-year university and answered questions about their experiences as UCI students.

The academy students' visit concluded with a tour of the dorms, where residents were on hand to welcome the students.
