PROFESSORS TO DELIVER WORKSHOP AT AMTE IN ORLANDO

Assistant Professors Beth van Es and Rossella Santagata will be joined by Randolph Philipp (San Diego State University) in delivering a workshop at the Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators (AMTE) 2009 Annual Conference to be held in Orlando, Florida, February 5 through 7. Entitled "Facilitating Video-Based Environments for Mathematics Teacher Learning," their teacher professional development presentation will include findings from their on-going research on learning environments.

Abstract

This 90-minute working-group session will address issues of facilitation of video-based learning environments for mathematics teacher education from three research projects.  Video clips will be used to frame our discussions and engage participants. In particular, participants will be introduced to two different frameworks (i.e., sets of questions) for analyzing video and consider how these frameworks influence pre-service teacher learning in various ways. In addition, issues related to facilitating in-service teacher video-based professional development will be explored.
