UC Irvine has been awarded a five-year National Science Foundation (NSF) Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship grant to support the Cal Teach Science and Math programs. Grant funds will be used to support UC Irvine undergraduate aspiring math and science teachers in two ways: a) paid summer internships at regional informal science centers (e.g. The Aquarium of the Pacific, Newport Back Bay Science Center, The Discovery Science Center, The Ocean Institute, and The Crystal Cove Alliance) with the goal of recruiting and providing early experiences to freshmen and sophomore STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) majors who are considering a teaching career; and b) scholarships for juniors and seniors who are participating in the UC Irvine Cal Teach program to earn a bachelor's degree from a STEM department and a math or science single subject teacher credential.
