Multiple Subject Credential candidates gathered at Mariners Elementary School in Newport Beach on August 18 for orientation in advance of their fall 2009 studies.

Approximately 85 candidates enjoyed a continental breakfast before being welcomed by DoE Chair Deborah Lowe Vandell and Director of Teacher Education and Student Affairs Judi Conroy.

During the morning, Multiple Subject Coordinator Christina Giguiere provided candidates with an overview of  the credential program, program policies, and professionalism. Candidates received their folders with information about fieldwork, fall assignments, and their University Associate.

The morning ended with a student alumni panel featuring Sarah Swedlund, Judith Vasquez, Erin Clarke, Stacie Rego, Chris Salem, Cassie Carpenter, Faye Draper, and Jessica Vargas.

The Single Subject Teacher Credential Program is a full-time, three-quarter program for people seeking careers as elementary teachers in California, typically kindergarten through sixth grade.
