On August 8, at the Annual Meeting of the American Sociological Association, in San
Francisco, Professor George Farkas delivered an invited talk on "Mistakes to
Avoid When Seeking to Publish in Peer-Reviewed Journals and Secure
Funding for Your Research."
Presentation Summation
This talk summarized "do's and don'ts" for successful publishing and grantsmanship. Issues included: formulate a research agenda and a pipeline of your work in progress as each paper moves through the review process; answer the "so what?" question; theory, hypotheses, and results must be consistent with one another; try to work with a research group; patience is important and details count.
