Forty-two Irvine Educators Honored at 22nd Annual Excellence in Teaching Awards Banquet

DOE Directors, Coordinators, and Student Affairs Officers joined Irvine community members and educators from the Irvine Unified School District (IUSD) in honoring their 2008-9 outstanding teachers of the year. Hosted by the Exchange Club of Irvine, the Irvine Teachers Association, and IUSD, the May 9th recognition dinner at the Irvine Marriott honored 39 teachers for their excellence in teaching or in their educational program.

During the evening DOE representatives were pleased to greet many Irvine teachers and administrators who had started their educational careers following their graduation from UC Irvine's Single Subject, Multiple Subject, Master of Arts in Teaching, or Intern programs. Six of the teachers who were honored currently serve as University Associates in the Department of Education for the Single Subject Teacher Credential Program: Kathy Wanchek of Lakeside Middle School, Michael Politiski of Rancho Middle School, Tim Leavey of South Lake Middle School, Tim Horrigan of Northwoord High School, Jon Pendleton of University High School, and Claudia Posvar of Woodbridge High School.  

UC Irvine's Department of Education and Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost provided Platinum Apple Sponsorship for the 2009 Awards.
