Three New Courses To Be Offered in Cal TEACH Program

Three new courses are being introduced for undergraduates in the Cal TEACH Program who are are pursuing a math or science degree with teacher certification.

1.  Research Methods, taught by Brad Hughes, Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, available Winter 2010

Catalogue Description: Exploration of tools of inquiry for developing and implementing science research projects. Students will undertake independent projects requiring data collection, analysis, and modeling, and the organization and presentation of results. Additional topics include ethical issues and roles of scientific literature.

2.  Explorations in Function and Modeling, taught by Sarah Eichhorn, Department of Mathematics, available Spring 2010 

Catalogue Description: Explorations of applications and connections in topics in algebra, geometry, calculus, and statistics for future secondary math educators. Emphasis on nonstandard modeling problems. Corequisite: Mathematics 2A.

3.  The Making of Modern Science, taught by Kyle Stanford, Department of Logic and Philosophy of Science, available Spring 2010 

Catalogue Description: Surveys the history of science and mathematics since the Scientific Revolution, examining central developments both chronologically and thematically, as well as investigating their significance for contemporary philosophical debates about the role and status of current scientific theories.
