GED 701: Field Research II

This is the second in a series of a two doctoral seminars. This course is ideally suited for students in the initial stages of identifying areas for advanced, independent doctoral research and serves as a forum for collegial support. Students continue exploring the foundations, assumptions, methods, techniques and ethics of field research and extend their knowledge of field methods beyond gaining access to the field and collecting data through participant observation, interviewing, and gathering research documents. The course focuses on data management, coding, data analysis, interpretation, making meaning, and writing up the research report enabling students to complete the field research pilot studies initiated in Field Research Methods I.

EDD 622: Human Dimensions of Instructional Reform and Change

Students examine current issues from the viewpoint of leaders who wish to bring about reform and change. Topics include the meaning of change, dimensions of change, change as a sociopolitical process; sources and purpose of change; coping with change; decision-making; implementation of change; problems of resistance to change; and change as a continuous process.

EDFN 600B: Field Research Study II

This is the second in a series of field-based courses. Students develop and carry out a field study for three quarters that involves the development of a research question, review of relevant literature, ongoing data gathering and analysis, and in depth reading and discussion on a particular topic.

This course discusses the role of faculty and others in the collaborative development and implementation of responsive curricula and explores systems for curricular redesign and reform in education, and processes for their implementation.

GED 820: Reforms of Education Through Integration of Technology in Currriculum and Instruction

The goal of this course is to develop an understanding of past educational reforms and apply what has been learned to the integration of technology in curriculum, pedagogy, and school management. Students read and analyze past reform efforts, develop a conceptual model for critiquing reform efforts, and apply this model to current policies and programs related to the diffusion of technologies in education.
