The CSET for Art is NOT offered in July or November. If time permits, consider taking one subtest per session in January, March, May, or September.
Familiarize yourself thoroughly with the CSET test and practice questions at http://www.cset.nesinc.com/CS_testguide_Artopener.asp.
Print and study carefully the Art Subject Matter Requirements and use this as your guide preparing for CSET, since you will need to be very familiar with it all.
Invaluable are the frameworks http://www.cde.ca.gov/be/st/fr/ and content standards: http://www.cde.ca.gov/be/st/ss/. This is the content you will need to master as an Art teacher.
The Glossary of Terms should receive particular scrutiny so you have the appropriate academic language to use on the constructed responses.
Sister Wendy’s videos are available from the Newport Beach Public Library: www.newportbeachlibrary.com.
Make sure to read relevant sections of the CSET Tips page as it contains invaluable strategies to help you do well on test day.
See the Art reference materials in the Student Resource Center and The Annotated Mona Lisa: A Crash Course in Art History from Prehistoric to Post-Modern by Carol Strickland.
The Art Teacher's Book of Lists by Helen Hume provides information about specific artists, art materials, art history, museums or disciplines; enhances background knowledge; and reviews traditional materials and techniques.
Useful are AP test prep guides, college course materials, and online sources. Fellow students are wonderful resources for reviewing content. If you find materials that are particularly valuable, please email us at gse-test-prep@uci.edu.
