Karol Gottfredson, Coordinator of the Intern Teacher Credential Program, hosted the Fall Intern Advisory Council on October 28 at UC Irvine.
Intern Advisory Council members are drawn from educators who teach, supervise, and host student Interns at their school sites. Interns are selected from students in the Intern Credential program who are preparing for their credential in middle or high school math, science, or English.
The morning’s agenda included discussion of fall placements and new models and innovations, including paired student teaching, shared student teaching, part time internships, and shared mentors (Teacher on Special Assignment Model). New business included discussion of ways to strategize for sustainability, attracting and keeping new teachers, meeting the demand for STEM teachers through programs such as UCI Cal Teach, and developing K-12/Higher Education partnerships.

Advisory Council members from UC Irvine include Judi Conroy (Director of Teacher Education), Christina Giguiere (Multiple Subject Credential Coordinator), Angela Jeantet (UCI Extension), Sue Marshall (Coordinator of Undergraduate Education), Susan Meyers (UCI Educational Consultant), Virginia Panish (Single Subject Credential Coordinator), Glenn Patchell (Lecturer), and Karol Gottfredson.
The next Intern Advisory Council meeting will be held in January 2012.
