The Single Subject Teacher Credential Program is a full-time, three-quarter program for people seeking careers as secondary teachers in California, typically grades 7 through 12.
The program is designed to provide a strong grounding in current research and best practices in education. The program prepares candidates to be reflective problem solvers who engage, motivate and meet the needs of all students. We are especially proud of our strength in developing the capacity to understand academic literacy and to teach literacy skills in all disciplines.
A California Single Subject Teacher Credential may be earned in seven different subject areas. Use the links below to learn more about each subject area.
A California Single Subject Teacher Credential in Math, Science, and English also can be earned through the Spring Start Intern Program.
Students in the Credential and MAT programs pay UCI Graduate Fees.
The Department of Education has a few special scholarships available for its students on a competitive basis. In addition, the UCI Financial Aid and Scholarships Office can assist you with general information about Cal Grant and federal and university loan programs, and other information about financing your graduate education can be found in the Office of Graduate Studies.
For further information about the Credential and MAT Programs, please contact the Department of Education Office of Student Affairs or attend one of our upcoming Teacher Credentialing Information Sessions.
