Spring Start Program Overview

The following is the typical program of study for this five-quarter program.  Courses may sometimes be offered in a different sequences than that described here.  In addition, some individual courses may be waived if you have taken them or similar courses (e.g., Ed. 124, Ed. 173) previously at UCI. Contact the student affairs office or intern coordinator, Karol Gottfredson, to determine coursework that might apply.

1st Spring Quarter Courses

ED 173 Cognition and Learning (4 Units)
ED 315 Preparation for Teaching in the Secondary Schools (4 units)
ED 319 Directed Field Experience includes 150 hours of fieldwork at a school site (2-4 units)
ED 334 Literacy and Technology in the Secondary Classroom (2 units)
ED 338 Methods of Teaching English in the Secondary School(2-4 units) or
ED 340 Methods of Teaching Mathematics in the Secondary School (2-4 units) or
ED 341 Methods of Teaching Science in the Secondary School (2-4 units)
ED 346 Reading and Writing in Middle High School Classroom (4 units)
ED 347 B Foundations of Equity and diversity for Secondary School Teachers (2 units)
Total 20-24 units

Summer Quarter Courses

ED 348 Theory and Methods of Instruction of Special Populations in the General Education Classroom, Secondary (2 units)
ED 349 Theories and methods of English Language Development Applied to Secondary Students (4 units)
ED 350 Adolescent Development in Education (4 units)
