Teachers of Tomorrow Hosts First Meeting of 2007-2008 Academic Year


The Teachers of Tomorrow club at UCI kicked off the academic year with an October 2 gathering of 30 UCI undergraduates who are preparing for their future in the teaching profession.   The club is sponsored by the Department of Education.  Evening activities included initiation of the following 2007-2008 officers: 


Tera Perry, President, sophomore enrolled in Physical Sciences
Elizabeth Yu, Vice President, junior majoring in Earth and Environmental Sciences
Melissa Silverman, Secretary/Treasurer, junior majoring in Psychology and Social Behavior
Rachel Holland, Activities, junior majoring in English
Judith Vazquez, Publicity, sophomore majoring in Global Cultures.


The Teachers of Tomorrow club is open to all UCI undergraduates who may be considering teaching as a career.  Meetings are held on Tuesdays at 8 PM during Weeks 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9 in the Student Resource Center, 1121 Berkeley Place.

 

The next meeting on Tuesday, October 16, at 8 PM, will feature UCI clubs, programs, and outreach organizations that offer fieldwork experience with K-12 students in Orange County classrooms or after-school programs.

 

On October 30, at 8 PM, the guest speaker will be Patricia Hager, Principal of Whitney High School, ABC Unified School District.  Whitney HS was featured in the book School of Dreams by Edward Humes http://www.edwardhumes.com/books/school/ .
