Laura E. Settle Scholarship


The Laura E. Settle Scholarship was established to honor Laura E. Settle, founder of the California Retired Teacher’s Association (CRTA). Laura E. Settle retired as a teacher from the Pasadena School District in Pasadena, California. She served as president of the CRTA for 16 years. This scholarship is awarded to students who are preparing to become professional teachers in the State of California.

The Laura E. Settle Scholarship Committee has asked the UC Irvine Department of Education to select one candidate for a $2,000 scholarship award. Selection is made according to the following criteria:

  • Must be an incoming student to the UCI Dept. of Education
  • Must be a citizen of the United States and a permanent California resident
  • Must posses an average to high scholastic standing demonstrated by undergraduate grade point average
  • A record of exemplary character and citizenship
  • Financial need (see paragraph below)

To be considered for this scholarship, please submit an application and a personal statement describing your commitment to teaching as well as your need for financial assistance. This personal statement should be no longer than one typed page single-spaced. Attach a copy of your undergraduate transcripts. (A copy in lieu of official transcripts will be accepted.)
