Professor Brings History of Accomplishments and High Level of Engagement to DOE
Margaret (Peg) Burchinal, who joined DOE this fall from the
University of North Carolina, has arrived with multiple projects and
numerous publications underway. In addition to her recent
appointment to the review panel for Early Childhood at the Institute
of Education Sciences, US Department of Education, Professor
Burchinal is PI, Director, or Co-investigator on five grants.
Publications in 2007 include seven journal articles which she
authored with colleagues and seven more in press. Earlier this year
she was interviewed by Good Morning America, the New York Times, and
the LA Times about findings from a large multi-site study relating
amount of child care to behavior problems and quality of child care
to vocabulary skills. Also earlier this year Professor Burchinal
gave a workshop on statistical methods to the project officers at the
Institute of Education Sciences and was a course instructor for the
Institute's summer workshop. Currently, she is the associate editor
of the leading journal in child development: Child Development and
the leading journal in early childhood research: Early Childhood
Research Quarterly.
