Language Project and UC Links
Suzanne Charlton
DOE Lecturer Suzanne Charlton is receiving a series of awards as she
brings to a close her years of teaching at UC Irvine. The Hal Wingard
Life Time Achievement Award, given by the California Language Teachers
Association on March 15, honored Dr. Charlton for "your lifelong
enthusiasm, dedication, and commitment to language learning and for the
honor you bring to our profession." The California Foreign Language
Project followed, with recognition of Dr. Charlton's contribution to
promoting foreign language study. UC Links honored Dr. Charlton on
March 14 at the Office of the President in Oakland. She was praised for
her research of effective after school learning environments and for her
administration of the Cosmic Dimension, the UC Links After School
Computer Club currently in operation at Wilson Elementary in Costa Mesa
and previously at the Boys and Girls Club and at Hoover Elementary in
Santa Ana. In conjunction with the operation of the Cosmic Dimension,
Dr. Charlton taught Education 160: Practicum in After School Learning
and Inquiry, which included a field experience component with UC Irvine
undergraduates serving as mentors to elementary school children (predominantly English Language Learners). Dr. Charlton was thanked by
the state-wide UC Links organization for her innovation, creativity,
inspiration, support, and perseverance in working to enrich the lives of
club members, teachers, and UCI students. |
