UCI California TEACH hosts campus open house
UCI California TEACH hosted an open house at the Cal Teach Resource and
Advising Center on April 8. More than 80 administrators, faculty,
staff, and students gathered at Biological Science Administration Suite
137 to celebrate the program's on-going work in promoting teaching as a
career option for undergraduate students in math and the sciences.
Participants learned about support services, upcoming information
sessions, and center resources while enjoying the comfortable
surroundings and a catered luncheon.
At the UC Irvine campus, the California Teach Science & Math Initiative offered its first seminar, "Introduction to Science and Math Teaching," in winter 2006. Since then, additional undergraduate courses have been added that provide a head start toward teacher certification. In fall 2007, the UCI Cal Teach program was one of thirteen universities nationwide to receive a $2.4 million grant from the National Math and Science Initiative (NMSI) Foundation.
