Exceptions to this deadline may be made in "high need" teaching areas such as Mathematics, Science, and English.
- Applications received by March 31, 2008 will be eligible for full consideration for merit-based scholarships.
Application Requirements
- Completion of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
- Undergraduate Grade Point Average (GPA): 3.0 or higher
- Passing scores on California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST) or CSET subtest I, II, III, and IV for Multiple Subject candidates.
- TB test

- B. Open the link to "What is a Certificate of Clearance and how do I get one?"
- C. Follow steps to "Apply Online."
- Two official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended
- Official Graduate Record Exam (GRE) score report
- For international students, official scores of the TOEFL or IELTS taken within the past two years
- Three letters of recommendation - These letters should provide evidence of your ability to complete graduate work, your capacity to work with children, and your ability to work as a member of a team.
- Statement of Purpose – This essay may be included as part of your online application or mailed directly to the Department of Education along with your other supporting documents. If you choose to submit the essay electronically, we suggest that you write it prior to completing your application and then cut and paste into the Statement of Purpose section of the online application. If you choose to send the essay with your supporting documents, please make sure your name and intended program appear on top of the essay.
- $60 application fee
- Recommended: Proof of Subject Matter Competency in one of two ways: (1) an official California Subject Examinations for Teachers (CSET) score report indicating all required subtests passed, or (2) an official verification of completion of the appropriate Subject Matter Preparation Program (Single Subject Only). While subject matter competency is not required in order to apply to the program, in some cases it will be required in order to provide needed evidence of strength in the content area or as a supplement to the academic profile. Also, because the credential programs are very intensive and time-consuming, it is very difficult to study and pass CSET exams after the program begins. Passage of CSET Exam is required to begin Student Teaching in Winter Quarter.
- Also Recommended - Completion of Education 173 or an approved equivalent prior to enrollment. There are other courses available to undergraduates that fulfill program requirements. Talk to a counselor for details.
