Single Subject Teacher Credential Program Overview
Our Mission Statement
We are a community of learners that develops ethical instructional leaders who think critically about educational theory and practice; collaborate to advocate for equity and diversity; engage, motivate and inspire students; analyze learning needs to design and implement creative instruction; and hone classroom practice through reflection.
Our Program Goals
The single subject student teaching program is designed to prepare teachers for teaching in single subject classrooms that are most commonly found in California middle and high schools, 6-12. Through course work at UCI and fieldwork in public schools, candidates will have opportunities to enhance their content knowledge in their subject area, develop knowledge about second language acquisition and literacy, learn about theories and models for best pedagogical practices and apply that knowledge and pedagogy in "real life" classrooms.
Our Program Components
During Fall Quarter, candidates take course work and complete pre-student teaching fieldwork in public school classrooms. During Winter and Spring Quarters, candidates complete their student teaching assignment while continuing course work.
