Math
This program satisfies state subject matter competency requirements for public school teachers of mathematics. In California, math teachers must be prepared to teach subject matter in the middle and high school curriculum, which includes:
- Algebra
- Geometry
- Number theory
- Probability and statistics
- Calculus
- History of mathematics
The Mathematics SMPP includes courses that cover all of these subject areas.
The coursework in the UCI Math Major with a Specialization in Mathematics for Education is well aligned with the requirements of this mathematics SMPP. However, participation in this program does not require a major in mathematics or in the specialization for mathematics education. All students should seek academic advisement to successfully plan an undergraduate program of study that includes all of the required SMPP coursework.
