Constructing Your Statement of Purpose
MAT and Credential Program Guidelines
The Statement of Purpose provides information about you that is not available in other documents submitted for the application file. You might include in your statement ideas such as:
- How an influential teacher or other individual helped you develop intellectually
- What makes you passionate about wanting to teach
- An experience or aspiration that suggests why you would become a successful teacher and/or leader among teachers
These suggestions are provided to stimulate reflection. Depth and quality of writing are more important than coverage of all items on the list.
Formatting Guidelines:
Length should be 1 - 2 pages
Single space
1" margins
12 point font
